All Weather Ships and All Other CG Ships Prior to 1975 REUNION 2011 The reunion is open to all Coast Guard ships built prior to 1975. The reunion will be held at Harrah's Hotel/Casino 219 North Center Street, Reno Nevada. The date for the reunion is Sunday May 15,2011, to Wednesday May 18, 2011. The 2011 rate for rooms will be will be $65.00 plus tax. You may call Harrah's Hotel Central Reservations at 1-888-726-6311 and ask for Reno and identify yourselves with group code S05AWSR to receive the special rate. The cutoff date for making reservations is April 15, 2011 and after that date it will be on an individual basis at the prevailing hotel rate. Cancellation policy is 72 hours prior to arrival to avoid a charge of one night's room and tax. The reunion hospitality room will be located on the second floor of the East Tower. Your registration fee will cover food and drinks during the reunion in the hospitality room including the Wednesday night Banquet. There will be a no host bar during the Wednesday night Banquet. A Thursday morning farewell brunch will be a separate charge for those wishing to stay for a last visit with old shipmates and newfound friends. Link to Registration Form for 2011 REUNION 2011 REUNION TOURS Virginia and Truckee Railroad Tour - $79.60 per person The Virginia and Truckee Railroad, known as the "Queen of the Short Lines", first rolled in 1870. Its legendary engines and engineers opened the silver hills of Nevada's Comstock Lode through some of the steepest and curviest rail lines in America. Travel back to the bonanza days on a scenic ride. The conductor tells the story of Nevada’s late 18th century mining boom when the V&T was built and Virginia City was the riches city on earth, with more millionaires than anywhere else. In it’s hey-day as many as 45 trains a day arrived and departed Virginia City. The line was completed in 1869 and for the following 70 years hauled millions of dollars in gold and silver ore from the mines of Virginia City. The Virginia and Truckee Railroad is now a tourism line, steaming passengers from Virginia City to Gold Hill to Carson City. Your trip will begin in Virginia City to Gold Hill through American Flats on to Haywood and back into Virginia City. Today, 60 years after the last train left the Comstock, you will have the opportunity to ride in your choice of the open cars or in the caboose, all of which are over 72 years old. When your group returns to Virginia City your MotorCoach will take you to the Center of Virginia City and your personal guide will escort you through the downtown, telling many legends of “rags to riches” and “riches to rags”. You will see the actual tunnels, crosscuts and various tools that the miners used in the old Comstock. Donner, Truckee, North Shore Tahoe Tour - $52.00 This tour takes you on a scenic drive from Reno into California to the famous Donner Memorial State Park. Here you will have the opportunity to view a dramatic short film about the plight of the Donner Party and to visit the small historical museum which further elaborates on this tragic story. Included in the museum are displays and information about one of the early pioneer wagon trains, the Donner party forced by circumstances to camp at the east end of Donner Lake in the winter of 1846 - 1847, resulting in huiman suffering and loss of life. Next you will visit the old railroad town of Truckee. Here you will have time to do a little shopping. You will find a variety of galleries, gift shops and other specialty stores, many of which are located in historic buildings of which many of these structures have been renovated and date back as far as the 1860's. Your next destination is Squaw Valley, site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. You will have the opportunity to take some pictures of this beautiful area and visit their specialty shops. From Squaw Valley you will travel along the beautiful north shore of Lake Tahoe driving through numerous small communities built along the shoreline. You will stop at one of the beaches along the north shore to enjoy a box lunch. You will also pass by the famous old Cal-Neva Casino and Hotel, once owned by Frank Sinatra and a favorite destination for many of his notorious and famous friends. Your tour guide will give you the history of the area as you travel along the most beautiful landscaping area around Lake Tahoe returning to Reno along the Mount Rose. PYRAMID LAKE MUSEUM and FISH HATCHERY - $50.00 The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribes Reservation is located thirty five miles northwest of Reno Nevada in a remote desert area located in the counties of Washoe, Lyon and storey. The area of the reservation contains 475,000 acres or 742.2 square miles. Out of this acreage approximately 112,000 acres cover the surface of a terminal desert lake, Pyramid Lake. The lake is one of the most valuable assets of the tribe and is entirely enclosed within the boundaries of the reservation. Pyramid Lake is approximately 15 miles long and 11 miles wide. The lake is 350 feet deep at its deepest point. Much of the economy on Pyramid Lake is centered around fishing and receational activities at the lake. In addition to permit fees for fishing, day use and overnight camping, the tribe also receives lease revenue and tax revenue. Several tribal members belong to the Pyramid Lake Cattleman's Cooperative and manage the individual cattle herds. This Pyramid lake Tribal Museum in Nixon will acquaint you with the history and culture of the Paiute Tribe of Pyramid Lake. The goal of Pyramid Lake Fisheries is to maintain a recreational fishery at Pyramid Lake while working collaboratively with partners to protect, conserve and restore aquatic resources including habitats in the Truckee River Basin. The visitor center explains the purpose of the hatchery and includes a photo display with the people of Pyramid Lake. |
