The stern of the CGC Minnetonka is alive and well. Yes; Curt Garrett of Bay Point CA and never in the Coast Guard found the name welded on the stern of what is now the S.S. McAVOY bait shop and is part of that shop. I understand it is going to be moved to the green area in front of the Yacht Club if you use Google Maps to look at the location. The stern is part of the building on the right as you enter from the Railroad tracks about 100 ft from the green plot, its new home. It is the large white building and the stern is pointed south from the building.

Now if you look at the pictures and zoom in you will see the name welded into to hull, as most BM’s and SN will tell you from painting it over the years.

Next question, Curt would like to know what the “I” beam pattern on the stern were used for. My guess was support for the ASW stern racks, which were removed before I reported onboard.

This and the wheelhouse of the Owasco maybe the only parts of a 255 still in use today.
